Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 1935.

The town was granted city rights in the 14th century. The oldest arms showed the arms of Baden. The present arms were first used in 1604, a year after the city was transferred to Württemberg.

The antler, the symbol of Württemberg was at that time placed below the mountain. Already in 1607 was the antler placed above the mountain. The mountain itself is probably canting (Steigen=to climb). The present colours were determined in 1935.
