Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 22, 1937.

The cross is the arms of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged. The escutcheon shows the arms of the Lords Von Grafschaft, an important medieval family, who originated from the region. Their arms are known from many 13th century seals.
