Official blazon

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A shield shaped insignia with arced scroll attached above the shield, 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/2 inches (6.35 cm) in width overall, consisting of a black shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border, on which is a green representation of the bell tower of the original school building. On a black scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) green border, the inscription “BELMONT” in green letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves green over black, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green mound. Attached below the shield an arced green scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters.

Origin/meaning

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 18 September 1975. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was originally approved 20 November 1931. It was amended on 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
