Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a blue triangle with apex up edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, the overall dimensions 2 inches (5.08 cm) in height and 3 inches (7.62 cm) in width a diagonal yellow band extending from the viewer’s upper right to lower left surmounted by the yellow head of a mountain lion coupled at the neck, detailed blue.
Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel insignia 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall, consisting of a shield divided horizontally into two equal halves blue over buff, the lower half bearing a gold demi-sun in splendor surmounted by a gold bear on a green enamel mound. Attached below the shield a blue arced scroll inscribed “LOS ANGELES USD” in gold letters
Origin/meaning
The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved 11 March 1975. The Shoulder Loop was approved on 20 November 1931. It was amended 10 May 1976 to add a motto scroll.
