Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: A shield shaped device with arced scroll attached above the shield, the overall dimensions 3 inches (7.62 cm) in height and 2 1/4 inches (5.72 cm) in width; the shield of gray background edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border, on which is a black panther issuing from dexter, detailed gray, tongue red. Attached above the shield an arced maroon scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) yellow border and inscribed “BENTON” in gray letters 5/16 inch (.79 cm) in height. Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a maroon enamel shield bearing a silver bend, overall a panther’s head arraswise couped of black enamel and silver delineation with red enamel tongue. Attached below the shield a silver arced scroll inscribed “BENTON” in maroon enamel letters. |
Origin/meaning
The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved 3 December 1971. The shoulder loop insignia was approved 15 October 1976.
