DUCHY OF BUKOWINA

Origin/meaning

The Duchy of Bukowina (now partly Romania, partly Moldova, partly Ukraine) was created in 1849, but was part of Austria-Hungary since 1777 when the Austrian emperors acquired the area from the Turks. The meaning of the arms is not known.
