DUDERSTADT (DUD)

State : Niedersachsen
Incorporated into : 1973 Göttingen

Dudersta.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on May 27, 1950.

The upper part shows a horse, both for the state of Niedersachsen, as for the formerly important horse breeding in the area. The lower part shows the wheel of the State of Mainz, as a large part of the district historically belonged to Eichsfeld. The arms of Eichsfeld were derived from the wheel of Mainz.

The leaves are tobacco leaves and indicate the importance of tobacco cultivation in the 19th century.

Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
