Official blazon
Shield: Per saltire Azure and barry wavy argent and Celeste, a saltire goutte de poix nowy-lozengy Or
charged at center with a lozenge Gules bearing a sea lion rampant of the fourth holding in sinister claw a gouette de poix.
Crest: Issuing from a wreath Argent and Azure a globe Celeste with grid lines of the first, superimposed by a demi-trident,
with a mullet on either side tilted bendwise and bend sinisterwise of the second.
Seal: The arms as blazoned in full color upon a White oval enclused by a Dark Blur coller edged on the outside with a Gold rope
bearing the name "USNS RAPPAHANNOCK" at the top and "T-AO 204" in base in Gold.
Origin/meaning
Blue and Gold are the colours associated with the US Navy. The Black Drops symbolises oil/fuel flowing along the saltire, indicating the
fuel hoses used to refuel Ships. The Sea Lion indicates Courage and also Singapore where the Ship will be forward deployed. The Lion holds
a Black Drop further indicating the Oil carried by the USNS Rappahannock. The Waves indicates the River in Virgina for which the Ship is named.
