GRATKORN

State : Steiermark
District : Graz-Umgebung

Gratkorn.gif

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on November 20th, 1922.

No explanation of the arms has been published, but it can be assumed that the Kornähren (ears of corn) hint at the name of Gratkorn and the tinctures of white and green at the Styrian colours. The rolls of paper may represent the local paper-mill, founded in the 19th century. The Gratkorn mill is now part of the Sappi company and features the world's largest paper-machine.
