Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 26, 1975.

The whole region belonged until the end of the 18th century to the Saarbrücken County, which is symbolised by the lion of the county in the upper half of the arms. The lower half shows six crosses for the six former municipalities.

The previous arms were granted on October 2, 1962.

The arms show two symbols which have been used for centuries in borderstones in the area; the fleur-de-lys for France and the wolf's hook for the County of Saarbrücken. The colours symbolise the coal mining (black) and wealth (gold).
