Wapen van Herzele

Official blazon

  • (1912) In rood een gouden keper.
  • (1988) In keel een keper van goud.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 15, 1912 and again on June 14, 1988.

The arms are identical to the arms of the oldest known Lords of Herzele, in 1282 a Walter was mentioned as Lord of Herzele. The family held the estate until the early 16th century when they were succeeded (through marriage) by other families. The arms are known since the 14th century for the family.

They also owned, through marriage, the estate of Heer Oudelands Ambacht in the Netherlands, which used the same arms.
