Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 14, 1988.
The arms show in an escutcheon the lion of Vlaanderen, surrounded by a canting symbol (compare also Eeklo) and are first mentioned in 1557. The bordure shows eight caps (from kaproen, or kap), and are a pun on the name. The arms thus indicated the fact that the village was part of Vlaanderen.
The previous arms were granted on May 25, 1838.
These arms showed the same composition, but in different colours. The present arms show the colours from 1557.
