Origin/meaning

White and maroon are the colors used by the Medical Department. The gold and black of the background are reminiscent of the arms of the Campbell Clan, alluding to the namesake of the Fort. The sail is a symbol of renewed hope and revived health and the cross refers to the mission of the Medical Activity. The green of the encircling pennant is symbolic of wisdom and of health and endurance.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was originally approved for the U.S. Army Hospital, Fort Campbell on 28 August 1970. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity, Fort Campbell on 23 August 1973.
