Official blazon
English Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a yellow shield edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border, a black horizontal band. Attached above a yellow scroll edged with a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) black border and inscribed “NEWARK” in black letters, overall and below the inscription a black demi-sword pommel up with a black grip garnished yellow and a white pommel and hilt.

Shoulder Loop Insignia. Description: A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/4 inches (3.18 cm) in height overall consisting of a Black vertical rectangle bearing the arms as blazoned: SHIELD: Sable a fess Or suppressed with a lozenge throughout Celeste overall a demi-sword palewise pommel to chief of the second hilt Argent surmounting the blade a yellow jacket hornet in dorsal view Black wings displayed Gold. CREST: From a wreath of the colors Argent and Sable a yellow jacket hornet flexed close revealing its “stinger” bendwise Black and Gold wings of the last. MOTTO: All supported by a scroll Gold turned Black inscribed with the motto “EXCELLENCE IS OUR EXPECTATION” in Black letters.

Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: The yellow and black bands of the shield and the shape of the sword hilt allude to the school mascot and the school colors. The shield and sword symbolize the cadets’ dedication to their school, community and country.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Black and gold are the school colors. The escutcheon, in the colors of the school references the location of the school by the blue diamond. The sword reflects the cadets’ dedication to school, community and country. The yellow jacket on the shield and as the crest, indicates the school mascot.
