SØR-AURDAL

Province : Innlandet (until 2020 Oppland)

Coat of arms (crest) of Sør-Aurdal
Official blazon
Norwegian

I blått et gull relikvieskrin.

English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 9, 1990.

The arms are based on a relic shrine in the Hedal wooden church. It is the gilt-copper medieval reliquary (chasse) that is still found in the church, but with five blue arches inspired by the arches on a similar medieval chasse from the medieval St. Thomas Church at Filefjell and representing the five Lutheran parishes of the municipality

The two dragon heads also represent the two wooden churches in the municipality, both date from the middle of the 13th century.
