SAINT LAMBERT

Province : Quebec

St-lambert.jpg

Official blazon

Arms : Azure on a base wavy Argent crested Azure an ancient ship Argent, on a chief Or a hunting horn Sable between a fleur-de-lis Azure and a rose Gules.
Motto: MAXIMUS IN MINIMIS

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 15, 2007.

The shield, surmounted by a crown-like fortress with seven crenellated towers, signifies Saint-Lambert's status as a city.In the top part of the coat-of-arms, the fleur-de-lis on the left represents the French-speaking population; the rose on the right symbolises the English-speaking population. In the centre, the hunting horn recalls Lambert Closse, the 17th-century hero of the French pioneers who, it is said, hunted the marshlands known as Mouille-pied, which are now Saint-Lambert. The ship, the centre point on the coat-of-arms, symbolises the geographical position of Saint-Lambert on the banks of the Saint Lawrence River.

The motto "Maximus in minimis" means to seek greatness even in the smallest details.
