SPACE SYSTEMS COMMAND, US SPACE FORCE

History: Established as Space Systems Division, and activated, on 20 Mar 1961. Organized on 1 Apr 1961. Discontinued, and inactivated, on 1 Jul 1967. Consolidated (7 Aug 1989) with the Space and Missile Systems Organization, which was established, and activated, on 25 May 1967. Organized on 1 Jul 1967. Redesignated as: Space Division on 1 Oct 1979; Space Systems Division on 15 Mar 1989; Space and Missile Systems Center on 1 Jul 1992. Status changed officially from unit of the United States Air Force armed force to field command of the United States Space Force armed force on 22 Apr 2021. Redesignated as Space Systems Command on 13 Aug 2021.
