Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 10, 1908.

Sprimont historically was a part of the Duchy of Limburg and the arms thus show the lion of Limburg. The oldest seal of the council of Sprimont dates from the 13^th century and shows only a shield with the lion. In the 16th and 17^th century the crown on the lion disappeared, but was restored in 1780.
