VERBANDSGEMEINDE ANNWEILER AM TRIFELS

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Südliche Weinstrasse

Wappen von Verbandsgemeinde Annweiler am Trifels/Arms of Verbandsgemeinde Annweiler am Trifels

Origin/meaning : The arms were granted on February 20, 1985.

The arms show in the upper half the cross and crosier for the State and bishops of Speyer, and the lion of the Pfalz. The bishops of Speyer and the Dukes of the Pfalz were the main rulers in the area for many centuries. The crosier also refers to the Eusserthal Abbey an important abbey in the region.

The base shows the mighty Trifels castle, with the three canting mountains (tri-fels, three hills).
The bordure is a common symbol for a Verbandsgemeinde.
