101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles, US Army
History: Activated 23 July 1918 as 101st Division, organized 2 November 1918 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. Inactivated 11 December 1918 at the same locaton. Assigned 24 june 1921 to the Organized Reserve. Activated at Camp Caliborne, Louisiana as the 101st Airbone Division on 15 August 1942. Inactivated 30 November 1945 in France. Reactivated 1948 and inactivated 1949. Reactivated again 1950 and inactivated 1956. Reactivated later in 1956 and active since then.

Origin/meaning
The Eagle's Head alludes to the Eagle named Old Abe which during the US Civil War was mascot of one of the Regiment's of the Iron Brigade. The Colour Black of the Shield fourther alludes to the Iron Brigade.
Divisional Artillery Distinctive Unit Insignia:In the scarlet and gold of the Artillery, the airborne character of the Division is indicated by the winged shell.
The Divisional Artillery DUI was approved on 13 November 1942. It was amended to correct the spelling of the motto on 21 November 1968.
