Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on October 2, 1963.

The arms show in the upper part the arms of Bayern, as the district belongs already since the 12^th century to the Wittelsbach dynasty, the ruling dynasty of Bayern. The lower part shows the importance of mining and industry in the district.
