Durch 3 blauen Wellenbalken von Gold über Blau geteilt; oben ein blaues Segelschiff mit geblähtem Segel und wehenden Fähnchen am Mast; unten ein halbes goldenes Zahnrad..

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 29, 1931.

The arms were designed after the granting of the city rights in 1924 and were used on the new seals of the city in 1924/1925. It took, however, 6 years before the arms were finally granted in gold and blue, as the city used initially different colours (see image below).

The ship is taken from the old seal of Mügeln and indicates the (historical) importance of sailing on the Elbe for Mügeln.

The wheel is a symbol for the local industry (the area became an industrial centre since the late 19th century).
