(1818) Van rood beladen met een klimmende leeuw, gedekt op deszelfs midden door een lambel met 3 pendanten alles van zilver, het schild gedekt met een gouden kroon.
(1843) De gueules au lion d'argent de Bohême, la queue fourchée au lambel d'azur de trois pendants brochant sur le tout, l'écu timbre d'une couronne à cinq fleurons d'or.
(1979) De gueules au lion d'argent à la queue fourchue, au lambel d'azur brochant; l'écu sommé d'une couronne d'or à cinq fleurons.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 11, 1843 and again on April 4, 1979.

The arms were first officially granted to the city in 1407 bt Wenesclaus II of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia. The arms thus show the lion of Bohemia, with a label to distinguish the city arms. The arms were first granted to the municipality on November 18, 1818 by the Dutch government, but with a silver label instead of blue. This was probably due to the bad quality of the material provided to the College of Arms by the mayor.

After the Belgian independence the arms were corrected and granted on April 11, 1843. The present arms are basically the same, only the label is slightly differently designed.
