Description: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a gold representation of the Shahyad Tower in Tehran in front of a maroon Greek cross with upper arm covered by the upper section of the Tower, and issuing from behind the cross a green mountain form having at either side a wavy white band curving outward around the lateral arms of the cross and then inward terminating at the base of the Tower; all supported by a red scroll with three folds and the words "TO LIFE" in gold capital letters in the center. |
Origin/meaning
White and maroon are the colors used for the Army Medical Department; the cross is symbolic of medical aid and health services. The Shahyad Tower stands at the entrance to the city of Tehran in Iran where the Activity is located. The green mountain shape refers to the Elburz Mountains to the north and the white wavy bands to the Jajrud and Karaj Rivers flowing down from the mountains to the east and west of Tehran. The colors green, white and red are adapted from the Iranian flag. The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 23 June 1976.
