NO 822 SQUADRON, FAA

History: First formed in 1933 at Royal Naval Air Station Netheravon, Salisbury as a Spotter-Reconnaissance Squadron with Fairey IIIF, in 1937 re-equipped with Fairey Swordfish. All aircraft was alost with the sinking of HMS Courageous in 1939. The Squadron reforemd in 1941 and served aboured HMS Furious until disbanded in 1946.

English	White; an eagle dispalyed black armed and langued red crowned with the navla crown gold and holding in the dexter talon a winged thuderbolt white and in teh sinister a grenade white both inflammed proper.

Origin/meaning

The Eagle alludes to flying and to the Eagle's Head in the badge of HMS Furious. The Thunderbolt and Grenade symbolise the armament of the Squadron stored in the Magazines of the Aircraft Carrier. The Badge was approved on 19 March 1937.
