Origin/meaning
Sachsenhausen was already a city in the first half of the13th century. The oldest seal is known since 1270 and shows the Count of Waldeck as a knight, holding a shield with the arms of Waldeck (8-pointed star). The two fleur-de-lis were also on the seal and probably are a symbol of justice, the city had an important regional court. All later seals show the same composition, which in the 19th century was placed in a shield to form the arms.
