The wall of pointed logs is canting: “tverai” meant “paled place” in old Lithuanian. The red colour symbolizes blood spilled for defence, and spearheads refer to the important centre of defense: 13th century Tverai was the capital of Samogitian duke Vykintas.
 
The first project of arms showed three fences with gates, reflecting the local folk tale about the origin of the town name. But the local community objected, demanding more respect for the history of the town.
