The main symbol in the arms is a kind of staff, locally known as the 'Mörserkeule', which symbolises the fact that the municipality used to be a place of a court.It is taken from the arms of the seal of the former Landscape (Landschaft) Stapelhorn. It is also the main symbol in the arms of [[Amt Stapelhorn]]. The same symbol can be seen in the arms of [[Süderstapel]]. The chief shows a sandy dune, the 'Twiebarg', a typical landmark of the village. The green symbolises the nature, the silver wavy bar the Treene river.
