The ship under full sail represents Captain George Vancouver’s ship HMS Discovery and perpetuates the unofficial badge of HMCS Vancouver, first of name (1928-1936). The Motto in Latin translates as "Ever on guard".
The Blazon of the Badge was confirmed by the Canadian Heraldic Authority on December 15, 2008.
