The meaning or origin of these arms is not known. They first appear as arms for the village of Mowensee in a roll of arms from the 15th century. The fish at the time was black and tilted 45 degrees, only on a map of the Luzern Canton from between 1597-1613 the fish was shown as above. | |||
The arms have been used by the Lords of Mauensee as part of their family arms ever since and were adopted by the municipality in the 20th century. | |||
