The personal arms are based on the arms of two Irish families. A (unrelated) Scanlan family used as arms a chevron and three lions, which were adopted by the bishop to represent Scanlon. The lower lion was replaced by a dove taken from a (unrelated) Coleman family and represents his mother (who was also named Coleman). | |||
