The municipality was created when the large Saterland municipality (formed in 1933) was abolished in 1945 and split into 9 new municipalities. Three of these, [[Ramsloh]], [[Scharrel]] and [[Strücklingen]] historically belonged to the Saterland region and all three wanted to use the image of the medieval seal of the region. The government of Niedersachsen thus decided that all three municipalities could use the image of the seal in slightly different composition. | |||
