The Axe symbolises the Fighter role of the Squadron. It also alludes to the Axe held by the Lion in the Norwegian Coat of Arms. Originally approved by King George VI on 17 January 1942. After the War it was approved in a Norwegian Badge Frame first by King Haakon VII and later by King Olav V on 12 December 1979. Present Badge approved by the Chief of Defence on 3 July 2008.
