The bear in the arms is obviously canting (Bär=bear). The stars are taken from the arms of the counts of Erbach (see also [[Erbach]]). Even though the field used to be brown (original grant), gold (Hupp, see below) or green (local journal, 1960), the arms were re-granted in silver in 1928 at the 600th anniversary of the granting of the city rights.
