The old arms were granted in 1957 and shows in the upper part a symbol for the railroad. The railroad was built in 1885 and the town became a major station. Due to this the town grew rapidly in the beginning of the 20<sup>th</sup> century. The colours are taken from the colours of the arms of the State of Bamberg, to which the area belonged until 1803.
