===Origin/meaning===
The arms were designed in 1970 and show a chuchubi (Tropical mockingbird, ''Mimus gilvus''), a typical and very vigilant bird on the island of Curaçao.
Initially in 1949 the base applied for arms showeing a three-mast sailing ship on a sea. This proposal was rejected due to the large similarity with the arms of [[Suriname]], then a Dutch colony.
