The arms are based on the oldest seal of the village, dating from 1761. The bagpipes (gajdy) are a unique symbol in Slovak heraldry. Th eorigin of the symbol is not known; there are two possible explanations. the first is that the arms are canting for the sound of the bagpipe, which is Slovak is named jačanie.
