====Origin/meaning====
====Origin/meaning====
I have no information on the origin or meaning of these arms. Any information is welcome !
The arms were officially granted on January 13, 1988.

The upper half shows a black grouse, a typical bird for the area. The base refers to the forests in the municipality and the two leaves represent the villages of Wesendorf anf Westerholz.

The arms replaced arms granted just two years earlier, see below.

The previous arms were granted on September 8, 1986.

The arms had basically the same design, but also had a small military cross. The cross referred to the large military camps of the German army in the village.

However, the cross also symbolised for many people the Nazi regime and for the SPD (socialist) fraction in the municipal council this was unacceptable. After a long struggle, the arms were designed in 1984, the arms were granted in 1986. The cross, although also used by the Nazi regime, was established as a military decoration in 1813 and is being used until today.

Still, the arms continued to cause political unrest and in 1988 th enew arms were granted.
