The island were granted arms on November 30, 1964.

The arms showed 6 stars, one for each of the islands in the group. The royal crown is taken from the Dutch national arms.
When Aruba left the Netherlands Antilles, the arms were changed; one star was removed. These arms were granted on January 1st, 1986 and have been in use until October 2010, when the Netherlands Antilles was abolished.
