In 1982 new elements were added to the arms. The rose in th eupper half is taken from the arms of the Schenken von Reicheneck, who ruled the city in the 13th century. The two special spades (German: Reuthauen) are a canting symbol (-reuth) for the areas of Kürmreuth and Namsreuth, as well as for the village of Hannesreuth (from Sigras municipality) which were added to the Königstein in 1972.
