Weilheim received city rights in 1319 from Count Ulrich of Aichelberg, and the oldest seal dates from the same time. The seal showed the key as a symbol of St. Peter, the patron saint of the city. The deer antler, taken from the arms of [[Württemberg]] was added in the 16<sup>th</sup> century (known since 1535), even though the city had become part of Württemberg in 1334. At first the antler was shown over the key, since 1639 separately in the chief.
