Origin/meaning
The new arms were adoped in May 2020.
The arms show the church from the old arms of Walsrode, with the colours and the wavy bar from the arms of Bomlitz. The new element, the water mill wheel, is taken from the arms of the important merrchant family Wolff, and also refers to the many (former) watermills in the area.
The previous arms:
The previous arms are based on the oldest seal of the city, which dates from the time of the granting of the city rights in 1383. The seal showed the local monastery of St. John, founded in 986. The seal was used for several centuries. In the 19th century the present arms were based on the seal, but the image of the church differs markedly from the original seal. In the late 19th century it was also stated that the building was the local city hall. The colours were used since the middle of the 20th century.
