Origin/meaning
The arms were officially adopted in 1993.
The lion is that of Gramont family, lords of the village. The silver border with six gorse sheaves represents the six principal neighborhoods of the municipality and the abundance of gorse found in the area.
The pen and the inkwell evoke the author Johanes Leizarraga, who was born in Briscous. The salt tower is reminiscent of the exploitation of salt which was a source of wealth for the town. These wooden towers were still visible until the late 20th century.
