Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 2017.

The red cross refers to the State of Trier, to which a large part of the area historically belonged. The lion is the arms of the Pfalz region, as parts of the area historically belonged to the Pfalz.

The third quarter shows the arms of the Counts Von der Leyen, local Lords in most of the villages in the Verbandsgemeinde. The volcano in the fourth quarter refers to the volcanic rocks and soils in the municipality, as well as the (former) stone quarries. The five rocks refer to the five municipalities. The shape of the rocks is the typical shape of basalt crystals.
