Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 12, 1931.

Hallein received city rights in the 13th century, and the composition of the arms is known since the late 13th century. The present arms are based on the composition of an early 14th century seal. The arms shows a salt miner holding a pillar of salt. Salt mining has always been of great importance for the city's economy.
