Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on November 12, 1931.

Hallein received city rights in the 13^th century, and the composition of the arms is known since the late 13^th century. The present arms are based on the composition of an early 14^th century seal. The arms shows a salt miner holding a pillar of salt. Salt mining has always been of great importance for the city's economy.
