WIEN-HEILIGENSTADT

State : Wien (Vienna)

Wappen von Wien-Heiligenstadt/Arms (crest) of Wien-Heiligenstadt
Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms show the holy Archangel St Michael, patron saint of Heiligenstadt. The name itself is said to be derived from "heilige Stätte", holy place, as there is an old tradition that St. Severin lived here in the 5th century (cf. "Vita Sancti Severini", written by his follower Eugippius). The body of the saint is, however, now buried in Southern Italy.

Heiligenstadt is now part of the 19th municipal district, Döbling.
