Official blazon
English Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A silver color metal and enamel device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height consisting of a silver octagon bearing a maroon cross surmounted by a black escutcheon charged with a gold rampant lion, all enclosed at bottom by a black scroll inscribed "LIFE BLOOD" in silver.

Origin/meaning

Maroon and white (silver) are the colors traditionally used by the Medical Corps. The cross alludes to healing and is symbolic of the organization's mission. The escutcheon is adapted from the City Arms of Heidelberg, Germany.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on 28 December 1998.
