English | Distinctive Unit Insignia. Description: A gold color metal and enamel device, 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in width overall consisting of a white globe with gold gridlines superimposed by a black silhouette of an engineer's transit and plumb bob, all encircled by a red lightning bolt inscribed around the top with "DESIGN BUILD MAINTAIN" in gold letters. |
Origin/meaning
Scarlet and white are the colors traditionally used by the Engineer Corps. The lightning bolt represents swiftness needed for execution and deployment. The globe refers to the organization's worldwide mission. This mission is highlighted in the words of the motto, which is to design, build and maintain. The engineer transit and plumb bob provide linkage to the group's past organization. The black and white contrasting colors allude to clarity and precision, which are prerequisites for the engineer field.
The Distinctive Unit Insignia was authorized on 25 September 2001.
