Origin/meaning
Willem Joseph, Baron of Ghent(1626-1672), Lieutenant Colonel of the Walen Regiment and Governor of Hellevoetsluis. On December 21, 1665, he was elected by the States of Holland as the first Commander of a unit of 'Ship Soldiers', comparable to the later Narines. He is considered the first Commander of the Marine Corps.
